Trinkets are items used to customize the Skylander (or Villain) like Hats. They were first introduced in Skylanders: Trap Team. You can find trinkets across the Skylanders Academy or purchase them from Auric.

There are many trinkets inspired by Skylanders, such as "Spyro's Shield" or "Stealth Elf's Gift", which have their faces on them.
In Skylanders: SuperChargers and foward, trinkets no longer are used.
