Sun Dragon
Element: Life
Species: Dragon
Gender: Male
Role: Ally
World: Skylands
Appears in: Skylanders: The Beginning

Sun Dragon[1] is a scrapped character who is the early version of Camo, and appeared only in the Skylanders: The Beginning trailer, taking part in the battle against Kaos' army.

Sun Dragon was one of the earliest Skylanders, both during the initial pitch of a Toy-themed Spyro game as a playable dragon, and as a Life Skylander during the Spyro's Kingdom phase.[2] At this point, Sun Dragon had a more menacing design and a large head.

During the development of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, Camo originally looked like the mysterious Sun Dragon, bearing the same attacks as well. It is known that his primary attack would have been throwing a sun ball forward and his second would be stringing a line of firecrackers.[3] His design still had Sun Dragon's appearance when The Begnning trailer was made, and changes to Camo's character design was made very late during production.[1]

While Sun Dragon himself is now a scrapped character design that never made it to the final line of playable characters for Spyro's Adventure, Camo became his successor.

Trivia

  • Interestingly, he, Fire Kraken and Flarewolf are the only Skylanders who used fireworks to fight, however because Sun Dragon was scrapped, Fire Kraken and Flarewolf are the only ones.
    • Coincidentally, both Fire Kraken and Sun Dragon are Chinese dragons.
  • Despite being a scrapped version of Camo, Camo also makes an appearance in the Beginning trailer charging into battle just under Spyro's wing.
  • The Sun Dragon can only ever be seen twice in "The Beginning" trailer.
    • The first time is when Slam Bam is fighting some Cyclops Choppers. Sun Dragon can be seen in the background to the left of Slam Bam.
    • The second and final time is when the Skylanders are being blasted away. He can again be seen in the background, this time to the left of Wrecking Ball as the grub worm says "Not good."
