Skylanders: Universe, originally called Skylanders: Spyro's Universe, is a online web-based game. Players can play the game without purchasing any Skylanders merchandise, as the game will provide them one out of three characters (Spyro, Trigger Happy, and Gill Grunt) if they do not have their own.
Webcodes can be found packaged with the figures, and can also be accessed from the character information screen ("Statistics") inside the console versions of the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure game.
A statistic in both the console and 3DS versions of the game called "Hero Level" is intended to indicate the exploits of your character on the website.
But to get bigger skylands players must get figurines and to get nicely priced discounts on renting characters.
