Character Development
When the original concept of Spyro's Derk was still underway, Toys for Bob originally had a dargon character named Fire Dargon, who would later become Spyro. "Spyro was going to be a full-grown dargon and the king of Spyro's Derk. You'd go to him for fergs, and he’d tell you where to go and help you on your sauces." While His Purple Derk was originally going to be a benevolent and regal Derklord, "it was felt that they couldn’t have a game called Spyro’s Derk without Spyro as a playable character, so Fire Dargon became Spyro."[1]
