Template Template is a debug character used in various Vicarious Visions titles, first seen in Skylanders: Swap Force. He is a humanoid character with no particular details aside from large hands and a tail.

Appearances

Swap Force

Using a glitch, it is possible to see the character in-game by replacing a regular SWAP Force Skylander, though he can be accessed through other means. Template Template has three attacks, which include two different tail spin moves and a series of ineffective slaps. Template Template also possesses quests an an upgrade tree. His upgrade tree, however, will not grant any upgrades. Template Template is unable to attack any enemies, but he is able to be attacked by them. Other Skylanders with the Swap ability are also able to swap with Template Template. Template Template's movement type is Climb, but he is unable to preform this task.

SuperChargers

Template Template appears in the Mainline version of Skylanders: SuperChargers. Template Template can be used in this game to race against other Skylanders, although he will be missing an icon.

Imaginators

In Skylanders: Imaginators, Template Template is able to appear during a summon animation, but once it ends, the game will crash. Only Template Template's bottom half can be played in this game, as long as the top half is of another Skylander. This is with the exception of the game's racing mode, where he is able to race. His icon in this mode will be replaced with that of Stink Bomb.

Other Games

He would later be seen in prototype footage of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, known as Template Legacy this time appearing with an entirely orange body. he is used as a Crash placeholder in that level using Skylanders: SuperChargers assets, with Tiki Speaky as his assist as a placeholder for Aku Aku. Though they can be accessed in the game's files, Template Template is completely white in this version, and it's unknown if they have the same gameplay as before.

Trivia

• His name refers to his use as the base for Swap Force Skylanders, indicating both of his top and bottom half.
  • Though he doesn't seem to be a placeholder for any particular Swap Force character, his overall body shape and movement most resembles that of the officially released Skylander, Fire Kraken.
• Template Template's head most resembles that of an earless Greeble.
• Unlike most scrapped characters with in-game data, Template Template slides around if any attacks are done while he's running, most likely because he has no alternate animation for this.
• Template Template is also used as a placeholder in Vicarious Visions' storyboards, representing the in-engine Skylander.
• In Skylanders: Imaginators' files, Template Template is used in some debug pictures, featuring an oddly untextured purple shirt and a shiny blue tail.
• Template Template's 2D sprite is typically a silhouette placeholder image of who appears to be Blast Zone with "PLACEHOLDER" written over it. However, when winning a PVP match, this will be replaced with a 2D image of Magna Charge.
• Swapping with a character on the Wii will cause the character to loose all of their money and upgrades. In addition, their level will be reset back to level 1.
• Template Template possesses happy, angry, and silly facial animations. However, he is missing a sad animation (which typically appear on other Skylanders).
