Starter Packs are the central product of the Skylanders video game series, being comprised of a game, a Portal of Power, and a small selection of Skylanders. Portal Owners Packs were also available at a lower price point, which included the game and a more limited selection of Figures and omitted the Portal of Power.
Additional items packed in with Starter Packs included a Character Stat Card for each included Figure, and a Figure Collection Poster depicting all of the Figures planned for release for the game

The original Starter Pack for Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure featured two versions, one for home consoles and the other for the Nintendo 3DS, which included a different selection of figures
As this was the first Skylanders game released, no Portal Owners Pack was made

The Starter Pack for Skylanders: Giants featured two versions, one for home consoles and the other for the Nintendo 3DS, which included a different selection of figures
Being the second Skylanders game released, this is the first game to receive a Portal Owners Pack, as the Portal of Power included with Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure is functionally identical to the one included with the Skylanders: Giants Starter Pack.

The Starter Pack for Skylanders: Swap Force featured two versions, one for home consoles and one for the Nintendo 3DS, which included a different selection of figures
Despite following Skylanders: Giants, this game did not receive a Portal Owners Pack. Due to each Swap Figure being read by the Portal of Power as two separate figures, and the original Portal of Power used by Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and Skylanders: Giants being able to read up to four pieces at most, a new Portal of Power was required in order to use two Swap Figures and any additional figure, such as a Magic Item.

Skylanders: Trap Team
The Starter Pack for Skylanders: Trap Team featured three versions, one for home consoles and the other for the Nintendo 3DS, which included a different selection of figures, and a new additional version for tablets, which is identical to the home console version except for including a different Portal design as well as a controller.
Due to the new Traptanium Portal having additional capabilities, this game did not receive a Portal Owners Pack, with the earlier Portals of Power being incompatible due to lacking these features.
Skylanders: Trap Team is the first game in which the home console versions of the Starter Pack includes two figures rather than the typical two, the third being replaced with two Traps. The handheld version does not include any Traps, while still cutting back to two figures.

The Starter Pack for Skylanders: SuperChargers featured a single version, with SuperChargers Racing filling the last gen and handheld versions of the game. The iOS version of the game once again includes a different Portal of Power and a controller.
Skylanders: SuperChargers was the first game since Skylanders: Giants to receive a Portal Owners Pack, though only in digital form.
Similar to Skylanders: Trap Team the home console versions of the Starter Pack includes two Skylander figures rather than the typical two, Though a third figure in the form of a Vehicle is included. Some random PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Starter Packs included a special Golden Hot Streak in place of the regular version.
The Wii U version of the Starter Pack includes two exclusive figures.

Skylanders: SuperChargers Racing did not receive a Portal Owners Pack.

Skylanders: Imaginators
The Starter Pack for Skylanders: Imaginators featured two versions, with the Nintendo Switch version including everything the others do with the exception of the Portal of Power, as the Nintendo Switch version of the game instead utilizes the NFC reader housed in the Right JoyCon to scan the figures into the game, similar to the handheld versions of earlier games.
Skylanders: Imaginators returns the physical Portal Owners Pack, with the game being compatible with any Portal from earlier games. The Pack includes a single Creation Crystal and no other figures.
