Turbo Charge Donkey Kong, otherwise known as Donkey Kong, is a Kong who is the main protagonist of the Donkey Kong series. He is a special Skylander-amiibo hybrid, along with Hammer Slam Bowser, who is one of the Life SuperChargers in Skylanders: SuperChargers. His signature vehicle is the Barrel Blaster.

Turbo Charge Donkey Kong is only playable on Nintendo consoles and is available only in the Wii U Starter Pack of the game. However, as of late December 2015 and early January 2016, he and Bowser come in SuperCharged combo packs with their respective vehicles.

Background

Personality

Being one of Nintendo's most iconic protagonists, Donkey Kong is a carefree, lazy, intelligence-lacking, yet trustworthy hero on Donkey Kong Island. However on various occasions, he was forced to take action with his sidekick, Diddy Kong and other members of the Kong Family to reclaim their main priority, the Banana Hoard, from their common enemies, the Kremling Krew.

Now as a SuperCharger, Donkey Kong is very competitive and agile on the battlefield; because he isn't as fast as Spitfire, Stormblade, or Stealth Elf, he tends to revert to Super Donkey Kong mode to keep up. He is also now deeply concerned for the safety of his fellow Skylanders and loved ones. Like all Life Skylanders, Donkey Kong prefers to keep his feet on the ground. At certain times, he can act a bit immature in the midst of battle, but is very protective of the defenseless. Despite his generally relaxed demeanor, he can easily get irritated when one mistakes him for a monkey, which is evidenced when Blubberbeard was introducing himself to the former and Bowser.

Biography

Donkey Kong is a fun-loving powerhouse gifted with great strength and incredible agility. His insatiable curiosity and easy-going attitude led him to explore the rift that appeared in his native jungle and brought him to exciting new adventures in this world called Skylands. Donkey Kong's fearlessness and reflexes made him a welcome addition to the SuperChargers and also the perfect driver for the stunt-tacular Barrel Blaster vehicle.

Story

Unexpected Allies

When Kaos cut off the connection between the Portals in Skylands, Mags' distress signal was not only able to reach all of Skylands but to other worlds as well. Both Donkey Kong and Bowser were transported to Skylands through a rift where they were soon attacked by a gang of pirates lead by Captain Blubberbeard. During the battle, they discovered two Rift Engines nearby and touched them, transforming into SuperChargers. With their newfound powers, Bowser and Donkey Kong defeated the pirates and drove them away. Skylanders, Bone Bash Roller Brawl and Lava Lance Eruptor, discovered the two newcomers and brought them back to the Skylanders Academy where Buzz explained what was happening to Skylands. Donkey Kong was enthusiastic on helping out against Kaos and The Darkness, while Bowser was hesitant before the two were given their own personal vehicles to aid them in their cause.

Relationships

Bowser

The primate hero and the former Koopa tyrant were sworn enemies. Now together as Skylanders, they're in good terms with one another, as evident when Bowser was defensive of his associate during their confrontation with Blubberbeard and his pirates.

Gameplay

Although he was transformed by a Rift Engine, Donkey Kong still retains some of his original powers from his old days. He can use his Barrels of Fun from the Donkey Kong Country games to sneak past enemies; his Bongo Barrel from the Donkey Konga games to release a damaging shockwave as well as summoning Diddy Kong, and transform into Super Donkey Kong to perform a barrel roll, barrel punches, and his Old School ability, using the girders and ladders from the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game (originally forming a construction site which served as a fortress for his grandfather, Cranky Kong).

Reverting to Super Donkey Kong also allows him to rapidly heal if he chooses his Pointy Preparations path. His primary ability, Primate Punch, gets its name from Donkey Kong 64, being Chunky Kong's secondary ability. He can also throw his barrels, which damage faraway enemies or self-destruct on contact with nearby baddies.

Stats

Warning: These stats are not used in any of the Skylander games. They are only listed for completeness reasons.

  • Strength: 285
  • Defense: 120
  • Agility: 150
  • Luck: 145

Racing Stats

In Skylanders: SuperChargers Racing, Turbo Charge Donkey Kong is all about brute force. His Firepower is as high as it can be for a Skylander, meaning that he can do lots of damage to opponents. His Top Speed is also great, with good Armour on the side. His Acceleration and Handling are alright, but they aren't his greatest assets.

As a SuperCharger, Turbo Charge Donkey Kong has access to the vehicle mods. When paired with his Barrel Blaster, he gains even more Firepower, as well as good boosts to his Top Speed and Acceleration. The Handling and Armour stats on receive a small boost, meaning that while he can deal damage he certainly can't take it too well.

As an AI racer, he uses the Clown Cruiser with the Dry Bones Basher mods for Sky races, the Soda Skimmer for Sea races, and his Barrel Blaster with SuperCharged mods for Land races.
