Appearances
Swap Force
Using a glitch, it is possible to see the character in-game by replacing a regular SWAP Force Skylander, though he can be accessed through other means. Template Template has three attacks, which include two different tail spin moves and a series of ineffective slaps. Template Template also possesses five of the normal nine quests and a full upgrade tree, the latter of which is placeholder and will not grant any upgrades. Template Template is unable to attack any enemies, but he is able to be attacked by them. Other Skylanders with the Swap ability are also able to swap with Template Template.
The HUD icon for the Skylander's element is not rendered due to Template Template lacking an element, revealing a part of the health and XP gauges that aren't seen during normal gameplay. Template Template's movement type is Climb according to the HUD, but he is unable to perform this task. In addition, he uses a "placeholder" image for his portrait, which is a puff of smoke that resembles a silhouette of a prototype rendition of Blast Zone with the word "PLACEHOLDER" written on it, except during a battle results screen where he instead uses Magna Charge's portrait.
During the summoning sequence, Template Template is incorrectly described as a Fire element Skylander when he is summoned and his name shows up. However, when summoned, the element panel(s) don't show as normal for the loading animation of a Swap Force Skylander, leaving the sequence background completely visible if both halves are used, the white bar that is supposed to represent the split in elements for a Swap Force character and the top element panel missing if the top half is used, or the bottom element panel missing if the bottom half is used.
SuperChargers
Template Template appears in the mainline version of Skylanders: SuperChargers, but does not make an apperance in Skylanders: SuperChargers Racing. Outside of the racing mode, he uses a generic placeholder icon. He also lacks any 3D preview that can be seen with all other Skylanders while driving a vehicle.
Imaginators
In Skylanders: Imaginators, Template Template is able to appear during a summon animation, but once it ends, the game will crash. In the Nintendo Switch version, he cannot be summoned at all, but does remain in the files of the game. Only Template Template's bottom half can be summoned in this game without crashing, as long as the top half is of another Skylander, or vice versa. This is with the exception of the game's racing mode, where he is able to race. If he is taken out of the racing mode and into the main game without a summoning sequence, the game doesn't crash and he can be played normally with the top half or both halves of him. Unlike prior games which use generic placeholder icons to represent him, his icon is that of Stink Bomb, except when in the racing setup menu where he shows as a red exclamation mark. If he is file swapped with the halves of a different swapper, he is able to be loaded in, so it is likely that the crash is due to his lack of element.
Other Games
He would later be seen in prototype footage of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, known as Template Legacy this time appearing with an entirely orange body. he is used as a Crash placeholder in a level during early developement, assets used in Skylanders: SuperChargers can be found in the level too. Tiki Speaky also appears as a placeholder for Aku Aku. Though they can be accessed in the game's files, Template Template appears completely white in this version, and it's unknown if they have the same gameplay as before.

Trivia
- His name refers to his use as the base for Swap Force Skylanders, indicating both of his top and bottom half.[1]
- Though he doesn't seem to be a placeholder for any particular Swap Force character, his overall body shape and movement most resembles that of the officially released Skylanders Fire Kraken and Free Ranger.
- Template Template's head most resembles that of an earless Greeble.
- Unlike most scrapped characters with in-game data, Template Template slides around if any attacks are done while he's running, most likely because he has no alternate animation for this.
- Template Template is also used as a placeholder in Vicarious Visions' storyboards, representing the in-engine Skylander.[2]
- In Skylanders: Imaginators' files, Template Template is used in some debug pictures, featuring an oddly untextured purple shirt and a shiny blue tail.
- Swapping a Template Template part with a normal swapper part will cause the normal swapper part to lose all of it's money and upgrades. In addition, their level will be reset back to level 1. Although it won't actually write to the toy and the normal swapper's upgrades and levels with return to normal when they are swapped back to a normal swap.
- Template Template possesses happy, angry, and goofy facial animations. However, he is missing a unique sad animation (which typically appears on other Skylanders), but it can be used to set his facial animation back to normal.
- After driving a vehicle in Skylanders: SuperChargers, Template Template’s facial animations will fail to work, causing him to not change emotion from the D-Pad, or react to certain events.
