Root Runners are enemies that appear in Skylanders: Giants as a replacement for the Chompy Pods. As their name suggests, they take out their roots, and run a little distance away if approached.

Trivia

• Despite being described as moving most of the time, they only run in Wilikin Village (Real World), Darklight Crypt and Swarm's Heroic Challenge. Though this is most likely a glitch, certain attacks can also make them uproot, only to burrow exactly where they stand.
• The Root Runners first appeared in the 3DS version of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure in The Wingwarrens, and reappeared in the 3DS version of Skylanders: Swap Force, at Fountain Springs. However, Root Runners don't spawn Chompies in 3DS versions, and they spit shrinking projectiles instead.
• At various points in Giants's alpha development, Root Runners were referred to as Chompy Pod Walkers or Pod Crawlers.
• Although only a few Root Runners in Giants actually move, all Root Runners have legs buried beneath the ground. In Giants's alpha, none of the Root Runners have legs, and they only spawn Frigid Chompies or Bone Chompies.
• In Giants's alpha, Root Runners had two alternate descriptions. One was copied from the Chompy Pod's description in Spyro's Adventure, while the other was, "It has legs."
