- “Runs away to spawn another day!”
- – The Description of Root Runners
Root Runners are enemies that appear in Skylanders: Giants as a replacement for the Chompy Pods. As their name suggests, they take out their roots, and run a little distance away if approached.
Root Runners are introduced either in the Life Elemental gate in Time of the Giants or at the start of Junkyard Isles, depending on which level the player encounters them first. If the player doesn't enter the Life Gate in Time of the Giants, their introduction will instead occur at Junkyard Isles.

Trivia
- Chompy Pods with the Root Runner colours were first seen in the Ghost World of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure in Darklight Crypt, where the Chompy Pods spawned Bone Chompies and in the 3DS Version of Spyro's Adventure as separate enemies called Shrink Pods in the Wingwarrens, where the pods spawned shrinking projectiles.
- Despite being described as moving most of the time, they only run in Wilikin Village (Real World), Darklight Crypt and Swarm's Heroic Challenge. Though this is most likely a glitch, certain attacks can also make them uproot, only to burrow exactly where they stand.
- They, along with the Enfuego Chompies, are the only enemies in Giants with multiple enemy introductions.
- At various points in Giants's alpha development, Root Runners were referred to as Chompy Pod Walkers or Pod Crawlers.[1]
- Although only a few Root Runners in Giants actually move, all Root Runners in Console Giants have legs buried beneath the ground. In Giants's alpha, none of the Root Runners have legs, and they only spawn Frigid Chompies or Bone Chompies.[2]
- In Giants's alpha, Root Runners had two alternate descriptions. One was copied from the Chompy Pod's description in Spyro's Adventure, while the other was, "It has legs." [3]
