Swarm is a giant hymenopteran insect who is one of the eight Giants in Skylanders: Giants. He is of the Air element.

Background

Personality

Swarm is as adventurous as he is unique. He always adds a barbed insult to a stinging attack. He never gets caught short of ideas, always having a 'plan bee' up his sleeve.

Biography

Swarm was once a prince from a proud race of mysterious insect warriors that had built their entire civilization inside a giant honeycombed pyramid. Growing up as one of the 9,000 members of the royal family, he was never permitted to leave the hive. But unlike his brethren, there was a magical quality to Swarm that caused him to grow much larger than the rest of his kind. No longer able to fit amongst the rest of his colony, the young prince broke the long standing tradition and stepped out into the open world - where his size and strength would be put to good use in the legendary battle between the Giants and the Arkeyans.

Story

History

As one of the nine thousand members of an insect royal family all crammed together in a hive, it was difficult for Swarm to stand out. All that changed when, without any explanation, the young prince began to grow. And grow. And grow. Although it was forbidden for any member of the royal family to ever leave the hive, they were forced to make an exception for Swarm when his head starting growing through the roof.

Emerging into an unfamiliar world, Swarm struggled to find a place to fit in. He wandered for months, and discovered that stinging insects, particularly enormous talking monster stinging insects, are not very popular. He soon became homesick, and longed for the days he was being trampled by several thousands of his closet relatives. However, when he was discovered by the other Giants, he finally found a purpose - using his brute strength and stinger attacks to ruin the Arkeyans' picnic and restore peace to Skylands.

Return of the Dragon King

When Malefor was on his way to attack the Skylanders Academy, Swarm was one of the many Skylanders that were summoned to stop the evil dragon. Tree Rex, Eye-Brawl and Crusher managed to grab hold of the Malefor's tail and hold him down, allowing Swarm and Bouncer to attack the dragon. However the Giants were caught off guard when Malefor's mechanical tail was also made as a weapon and he was able to defeat all of the attacking Skylanders, including the Giants, with a powerful tail whip. Malefor then proceeded to absorb their powers to make himself more powerful before advancing towards the Academy. Swarm's powers were later returned to him when Spyro destroyed Malefor's crystal that was used to steal the powers of Skylanders.

Upgrades

• Charged Air Blades (requires level: 3): Hold (Y) during any of Swarm's combo attacks to charge up air blades. Release (Y) once fully charged to fire the air blades.
• Bug Swarm (requires level: 6): Turn into a swarm of wasps that damages anything in your path while sprinting.
• Explosive Stingers (requires level: 9): Swarm's stingers now explode on impact when fired.

• Some of Swarm's prototype names include Wasp Giant, Wasp Man, and Bug Giant.
• Swarm speaks in a Spanish accent, though the original inspiration was an Italian voice actor, who couldn't be hired due to SAG-AFTRA restrictions.
• He has the lowest health out of the other Giants.
• During Giants's early development, Swarm's abilities/upgrades were differently named.
  • "Barb Blades" was called "Barb Blade / Barb Bullets."
  • "Sharpened Barbs" was called "Wasp Blade." "Wingin' It" was called "Aerial Throttle."
  • "Swarm Form" was called "Insect Shroud Form."
  • "Stinger Shot" was called "Air Cutter."

• Unlike most flying Skylanders, Swarm (and Gill Grunt) flies in a standing position rather than in a quadruped stance. However, Swarm can slightly turn during the process of flight.
• He and Drobot are the only two Skylanders who can damage enemies by just flying.
• There is a glitch where if Swarm enters a cutscene or is otherwise interrupted whilst flying, he will land although still be showing the animation of his wings buzzing.
• He, Hot Dog and Bumble Blast are the only Skylanders with bee related moves.
• He and Scratch are the only air Skylanders without a blue color scheme.
• Although Swarm can only fly for a limited amount of time, he can fly infinitely if he goes over water.
• Swarm has the shortest name of all Giants.
• Swarm is the only giant who can fly, although Ninjini can float.
• Having 8,999 other insect siblings makes it hard to wrap presents and write birthday cards for each of them everyday. But on the bright side, on Swarm's birthday, he gets a whole pile of presents and cards.
• Swarm is one of the Skylanders who appear to be based upon insects (others being Dune Bug and High Five).
• It is unclear whether or not Swarm is a bee or wasp, as his moves and voice dialogue contain references to both bees and wasps. Examples being the "Wasp Stormer" Path, "Bee is for Butt-Stinger" Soul Gem power, and his "Bee Cleaver" attack.
  • He resembles more of a bombardier beetle than a bee or wasp.
  • Some of his prototype names indicate he is most likely a wasp.
• The name of his secondary ability "Flight of the Wasp", is perhaps a reference to the orchestral interlude, Flight of the Bumblebee.
• Swarm is voiced by Danny Jacobs, best known for voicing Victor Zsasz in Batman: Arkham Asylum and being the second voice of King Julien XIII in the Madagascar series.
