SWAP Force Zone

From Skylanders Wiki

SWAP Force Zones are special areas in Skylanders: Swap Force with unique gameplay that can only be accessed by having a SWAP Force Skylanders with the corresponding movement type. When completed for the first time in story mode, in addition to being rewarded a new hat and some treasure the minigame will be unlocked to be played at anytime from Woodburrow. These minigames will then have additional objectives that reward completion stars to upgrade the player's Portal Master Rank. In the 3DS Version the Swap Zones are additional Platforming Areas which use the special Swap Abilities as gimmik.

Types of SWAP Force zones

Rocket

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Zone or Jet bottom half, these zones are represented by the Rocket symbol, located near a flight platform. The main objective is to fly through hoops to gain extra time and dodge obstacles, in an effort to reach the end before time runs out. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP zone medals, and the tertiary objective is to get there without taking any damage.

Climb

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Buckler or Rise bottom half, these zones are represented by the Climb symbol, located close to a scalable wall. The main objective is to climb to the top of the wall and avoid being hit by falling objects. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP zone medals, and the tertiary objective is to get there without taking any damage.

Dig

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Rouser or Drilla bottom half, these zones are identified by the Dig symbol. They are located near mining carts and equipment, as well as a sign with an arrow pointing downwards. The main objective is to dig inside an underground mine and look for three crystals that are buried before the time runs out. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP zone medals, and the third objective is to complete the challenge within a certain time.

Bounce

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Shake or Kraken bottom half, these zones are identified by the Bounce symbol, located between two giant bouncing springs. The main objective is to jump between several floating islands and be careful not to fall into the void, while trying to destroy three balloons with Kaos' face. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP zone medals, and the tertiary objective is to jump on each of the islands at least once.

In the Nintendo 3DS version, the Skylander has to use their Bounce ability to jump onto platforms or lanterns; some platforms move and change direction, so the Skylander has to wait to bounce at the right time. In between sections, the Skylander has to defeat enemies to progress.

Sneak

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Bomb or Shadow bottom half, these zones are identified by the Stealth symbol, located close to a fortress. The main objective is to pass through the fortress using stealth to avoid being seen by spotlights in order to press the fortress' self-destruct button. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP Zone medals, and the tertiary objective is to remain completely undetected.

In the Nintendo 3DS version, Stealth Zones are portrayed top-down and have hidden traps and clues that are needed to guide the Skylander to safety. Using the Stealth power will reveal them.

Speed

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Charge or Blade bottom half, these zones are identified by the Speed symbol, located close to a ramp and a goal line. The objective is to run at a great speed through a large track full of obstacles, and reach the finish line before the time runs out. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP Zone medals and the third objective is to finish within a certain time.

In the Nintendo 3DS version, Speed Zones are side-scrollers and the Skylander has to use their Speed power to race past enemies, moving obstacles and laser mines. While Speeding, enemies, obstacles and projectile slow down because of the Skylander's incredible speed.

Spin

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Ranger or Stone bottom half, these zones are identified by the Spin symbol, located close to two big spinning tops. The main goal is to spin like a spinning top, avoiding falling into the void while destroying certain obstacles, the last of which being a statue of Kaos. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP zone medals, and the tertiary objective is to complete the challenge without having to use the super spin.

In the Nintendo 3DS version, Spin Zones are portrayed as enemy gauntlets where the Skylander has to defeat waves of enemies with their natural powers and SWAP Spin abilities. They have to use their Spin power to raise certain floating flowers to reach their next destination.

Teleport

Accessible to any Swap-combination with a Loop or Shift bottom half, these zones are identified by the Teleport symbol, located close to a portal. The main objective is to teleport between floating platforms to collect magic Runes, while being careful about hazardous platforms. The secondary objective is to collect all SWAP Zone medals and the Tertiary objective is to complete the challenge without taking any damage.

In the Nintendo 3DS version, Teleport Zones have either invisible puzzles or mazes that are only revealed when the Skylander uses their Teleport power.

For the puzzle, the Skylander has to use their Teleport power to reveal the invisible symbols on the puzzles and jump on them in the correct given order. The invisible mazes are littered with hazards, but the Skylander can collect Teleport charge power-ups to travel further while teleporting.

Trivia

  • In the Nintendo Wii version, when you finish a SWAP Zone, the winged gems automatically go to Player 1's Skylander.
  • Each SWAP type is limited to a pair of Elements:
    • Climb and Speed Skylanders belong to either the Water or Tech elements.
    • Sneak Skylanders belong to the Life and Magic elements.
    • Dig Skylanders belong to the Life and Earth elements.
    • Rocket Skylanders belong to the Fire and Air elements.
    • Bounce Skylanders belong to the Fire and Undead elements.
    • Spin Skylanders belong to the Air and Earth elements.
    • Teleport Skylanders belong to the Undead and Magic elements.
  • The Sneak Zone description, "Tip toe through the tulips. And other foliage," is a reference to a famous song by Tiny Tim, Tiptoe Through the Tulips.
  • Climb and Rocket are the only SWAP Zones with 6 levels; the rest have 5 levels each.
  • Bounce and Speed are the only SWAP Zones not featured in the Adventure Pack levels.
  • In Sneak Zones, when a Skylander is spotted, all other searchlights besides the spotter will freeze.
  • The Rocket, Climb and Dig SWAP Zones appear in Mount Cloudbreak and Boney Islands.
  • The Climb, Speed and Bounce SWAP Zones appear in Rampant Ruins and Kaos' Fortress.
  • The Teleport, Rocket and Sneak SWAP Zones appear in Fantasm Forest and Sheep Wreck Island.
  • Each SWAP Force Zone contains a different musical remix from Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure or Giants:
  • In the alpha version of Swap Force, Sneak Zones used a remix of Quicksilver Vault's theme instead.[1]
  • In Swap Force's music files, three unused remixes of Leviathan Lagoon's theme appear designated to an unknown Swap Zone, suggesting that the music may originally have changed between the Zone's three objectives.[2]
  • In Swap Force's alpha, Swap Force Zones were called "Shift Zones."[2]
  • Swap Force's alpha includes Swap Force Zone themes designed "Hurry up," implying that the level's music was supposed to speed up when the challenge's timer ran low.[2]
  • In Swap Force's alpha dialogue, the Dig ability was called the "Burrower" ability; Rocket was known as "Rocket Legs" or "Rocketer"; and an unknown type (probably Spin) was called "Bird Legs".[3]
