– Game Description

Lava Kings are large lava monsters first seen in the Troll Warehouse, but they are only encountered behind the Fire Elemental Gate. They are seen frequently in later chapters, especially the Eternal Fire Source chapters. Lava Kings will usually spew Flame Imps, but when in close combat, they will release flamethrowers from their arms.

Trivia

• Lava Kings bear a strong resemblance to Eruptor, as they are both lava monsters.
• Their walking animation is identical to Eruptor’s slow walking animation in Spyro’s Adventure and Giants.
• The sounds they make sound very similar to the sounds Eruptor makes in Spyro’s Adventure.
• When defeated, any Flame Imps they’ve summoned will freeze and despawn after a second or two. They will still fall to the ground if they are in mid-air when the Lava King is defeated, and they will still attack you if you get too close to them just before they despawn, but they won’t pursue you when the Lava King is defeated.
• They will sometimes launch their imps into the lava in Lava Lakes Railway or into the void in Lair of Kaos. If the imps fall into the lava, they will just stand there until the Lava King who summoned them is defeated.
• The two Lava Kings behind the gate in Lava Lakes Railway can attack the player through the gate with their flamethrower attacks if you get too close.
• Like Eruptor, they have no hands.
• Despite being the same species, Lava Kings are noticeably larger than Eruptor.
• Though it takes a while, it is possible to stun-lock them with the pickaxe until they are defeated. Doing this reveals they have 161 HP.
• They and Flame Imps are the only enemies in Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure to have an enemy introduction in two different levels, as they have one behind the fire elemental gate in Troll Warehouse, and one in Molekin Mine.
• They, Flame Imps, Drow Spearmen, Cyclops Mammoths, Stump Demons, and Chompy Pods are the only enemies in Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure to have more than one enemy introduction. Drow Spearmen and Chompy Pods can be first encountered behind the Tech elemental gate in Perilous Pastures, Cyclops Mammoths can be first encountered behind the Undead elemental gate in Crystal Eye Castle, Stump Demons can be first encountered behind the Fire elemental gate in Darklight Crypt, and, as previously mentioned, Lava Kings and Flame Imps can be first encountered behind the Fire elemental gate in Troll Warehouse. Squidface Brutes can be encountered behind the Magic elemental gate in Dark Water Cove before their normal introduction, and Arkeyan Ultrons are encountered in Molekin Mine (though this is a larger version with no shields, less health, and a very powerful melee attack with a huge radius instead of a missile launching attack when compared to the later ones) before their appearance in Quicksilver Vault, but neither of these encounters have an enemy introduction for some reason.
• In Eruptor’s backstory, it is mentioned that Lava Monsters, the species Lava Kings belong to, have a temperament that is so bad it caused a chain eruption that sent them all flying out of their home, however, the second half of this is possibly contradicted by the fact that they appear in Molekin Mine and Lava Lakes Railway, two fire levels located deep underground, though it’s possible that the Lava Kings aren’t actually native to either of these areas, and were instead sent there by Kaos to find the Crucible of the Ages and Eternal Fire Source, respectively, as it is confirmed by their appearance in Lair of Kaos that at least some of them work for him.
