The UFO Hat is a disguised Magic Item that was originally distributed as a promotional item for those that preordered Skylanders: Swap Force at Target in North America, and GameStop in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Placing the card on the portal gives the UFO Hat. The card itself was available for Nintendo Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It was not offered for pre-order for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as those were released at the launch of those consoles. Despite this, it also works on the PS4 and Xbox One.
In the Nintendo 3DS version of Skylanders: Trap Team, it is possible to obtain the hat through the randomized Hat Boxes. For all other versions of Trap Team, you still need either the card, or a figure that is already wearing the hat. Trap Team is the only game that will add the hat to your collection from a figure that wears it.
In Skylanders: SuperChargers, it is also possible to obtain the hat, through randomized Treasure Chests, Spin Chests, Presents, with an Wish Stone at the Wishing Well, the Academy Store, with either the Ghost Pirate Swords or Hand of Fate Legendary Treasure Object in the Academy or from Hugo, Tessa or Pandergast after having completed one of their missions. If you keep buying everything in the Academy Store, it should show up for purchace, eventually.
