Trivia

  • The Golden Temple racetrack in Skylanders: SuperChargers is the area where the Lair of the Golden Queen is located, though repurposed as a race track and using different areas, and also as a filming set for a Mabu movie.
  • The Magic Gate in this area does not have a mystical background or assets like those of most Magic-themed areas.
  • Scrapped cinematic artwork for the game shows a different design for the Golden Queen's room with a much larger entrance[1], suggesting that it was originally planned to be the boss battle area.
  • All villains featured in this level (including Grave Clobber for his Quest) would later become Senseis in Skylanders: Imaginators.
  • This is the only Trap Team level where all its trappable villains are female.
  • This level has one of the most difficult Legendary Treasures to obtain, especially since the secret to unlocking it is never explained in-game. In order to lower the wall that blocks players from the Legendary Treasure, the player must reach the Legendary Treasure without falling off any cracked tiles, a notably difficult feat.
  • Lair of the Golden Queen is designed so that not all of its collectables are obtainable on the first playthrough, as the level doesn't provide enough keys to open both of its optional treasure gates.
  • This level shares a searchlight mechanic with Midnight Museum. However, Cali refers to the Lair's searchlights as "Spy Guys," while Buzz refers to the searchlights in Midnight Museum as "Spyclopters."
  • Although Cali says that getting spotted by the searchlights will result in a "game over," in reality this only results in the player being placed back at the start of the nearest searchlight sequence.
  • Nut and Mut, the Mabu brothers who appear in this level, bear a strong resemblance to the ancient Mabu in Time of the Giants.
  • Imhotep, one of the Mabu in this level, is named after Imhotep, the titular character of The Mummy film series.
  • Lair of the Golden Queen includes the longest staircase section in Skylanders.
  • The secret pit under the sand was the first part of this level to be created, and it was designed to surprise players who thought they were falling. The falling floor tiles were recreated from the Mists of Pandaria vault area, and the stealth section (inspired by Dishonored) was copied from Midnight Museum. [2]
