Skylanders Trap Team: The Discovery

From Skylanders Wiki

{{#ev:youtube|E8T78t9iRjs|390px|right}} Skylanders Trap Team: The Discovery is a four and a half-minute advertisement trailer based on the events of Skylanders: Trap Team. The trailer shows how two siblings named Leo and Madeline discovered the Trap Masters and helped them return to Skylands in a re-imagined version of Skylanders: Trap Team’s beginning. It was developed by advertising company 72andSunny[1] in partnership with Activision to promote the game, and initially premiered online on April 23, 2014 in tandem with the reveal of Skylanders: Trap Team.

Story

While staying at his uncle Peter’s house, a boy named Leo wanders into a strange room, and begins examining the many objects accumulated there. He is soon joined by his sister Madeline, who scolds him as their uncle told them not to enter the room. Leo teases Madeline for being a “chicken”, and then looks at a blackboard noting the various properties of Traps before taking notice of a strange light from underneath a tarp. Leo removes the tarp, and much to his amazement, finds a glowing Traptanium Portal and a variety of Skylanders: Trap Team figures.

Leo and Madeline watch the figures and portal in confusion before Leo places Snap Shot onto the portal. Doing this creates a visage of Snap Shot returning to Skylands, much to the shock of several of the other Skylanders. Wallop cheers at Snap Shot’s return, and Snap Shot stretches himself out as he laments that it’s not fun to be frozen, even for a cold-blooded creature such as himself. Wallop remarks on how glad he is to see another Trap Master back in Skylands, and Food Fight asks Snap Shot what happened to him. Snap Shot explains how the Trap Masters were blown to another dimension by Kaos destroying Cloudcracker Prison, and how Leo and Madeline sent him back to Skylands. He then introduces the speechless Leo and Madeline to the Skylanders.

Snap Shot shows off Skylands to Leo and Madeline, but as he talks, Wallop points out they still have a villain problem, for they were unable to capture the various villains who escaped from Cloudcracker Prison. Food Fight adds that this is due to the lack of Traptanium on hand. Wallop reasons that perhaps the Traptanium crystals were blown to Earth with the Skylanders. Hearing this, Snap Shot urges Leo and Madeline to look around for Traptanium crystals.

The two children immediately scavenge around the room before Leo finds them in a case and shows a trap to Snap Shot. The Skylanders gleefully confirms that Leo indeed found a trap, and not a moment too soon, for Wolfgang, Dr. Krankcase, and the Chompy Mage all arrive to cause havoc. The Skylanders immediately jump in action, with Snap Shot fighting Wolfgang, Wallop fighting the Chompy Mage, and Jet-Vac fighting Dr. Krankcase. As the battle rages, Food Fight catches Wolfgang off-guard by shooting a tomato in his face. This distracts him long enough for Snap Shot to get the finishing blow in. At Snap Shot’s urging, Leo inserts the trap he found into the portal and traps Wolfgang.

With him trapped, Leo sends Wolfgang back to Skylands, this time firmly on the side of good. Chompy Mage and Dr Krankcase watch in shock as Wolfgang plays a tune for the cheering Skylanders, and flee. As everyone celebrates, Snap Shot thanks Leo and Madeline for their help, and remarks that it would be nice to have more Traps, so Madeline brings him the entire case. As the Skylanders cheer, Leo removes a Kaos trap from the case and asks who the trap is for, and the Skylanders and Wolfgang watch on in shock as they reveal that the trap is for none other than Kaos...

Trivia

  • This was the first piece of Skylanders media (and prior to Skylanders: Ring of Heroes, the only one) to showcase named Portal Masters from Earth that were not the player.
  • Despite Wolfgang being an Undead element character, Leo uses a Water trap to trap him.
  • Several traps in the trailer, such as the Undead Angel, Fire Rocket, Tech Hammer, Life Hand, Tech Rocket, and Earth Logholder were concept traps and never made it to the final stage.
