- He, Power Punch Pet-Vac, and Eggsellent Weeruptor are the only Minis to be available in single packs instead of double packs.
- He bears the same name and color scheme as the counter part of Tree Rex, Gnarly Tree Rex.
- This makes him the only Mini variant to be based of a variant for his regular sized counterpart.
- His name bears a resemblance to Gnarls Barkley, a 2000's group notable for their song "Crazy."
- He is the only variant Skylander before SuperChargers to not have an appearance in Skylanders: Lost Islands.
- If Gnarly Barkley is placed on the portal in Skylanders: Giants, he shows as a “special” variant (In Skylanders Swap Force he shows as the regular version)
