Countdown's official catchphrase

Countdown is an anthropomorphic bomb who is one of the new Tech core Skylanders released alongside Skylanders: Swap Force.

Background

Personality

Countdown blows up at a moment's notice, although there is one drawback. Every time he explodes, he loses his memory all over again.[1]

Biography

Countdown was discovered by a group of Yetis who were snowboarding one particularly chilly morning when they came across a big bomb encased in ice. After bringing it back to their cabin, they were shocked when it actually came to life. No one, not even Countdown himself, has any memory of where he came from or how he ended up frozen in the mountains. Since becoming a Skylander, Master Eon has been graciously trying to help piece together fragments of his past. But this has proven difficult, as Countdown loses some of his memory every time he explodes – which happens a lot. In the meantime, Countdown has enjoyed working with Eon and fighting alongside the Skylanders to defend their world against evil – even though he occasionally forgets what he is doing.

Story

History

Discovered frozen in ice by a pack of snowboarding Yetis, Countdown has no idea where he originally came from or how he became frozen in the first place. After making him a Skylander, Master Eon tries his best to help Countdown gather memories of his past. The walking bomb himself tries to remember, but every time he explodes - which happens a lot - he forgets a little bit more. Still, he works hard to protect Skylands (despite not always being entirely sure why).

Gameplay

Countdown can detonate his own head for damage or self destruct(with consequences for him as well), shoot rockets from his arms, and summon bomb allies to attack enemies in his place. In Skylanders: Battlecast, he is an incredibly risky fighter with most of his abilities causing damage to himself or even his allies, but with a low energy cost in compensation. His Gear is a Bombrero, which explodes on both the owner and the enemy when attacked, and his special ability is Short Fuse, blasting the enemy for moderate damage but himself as well.

Trivia

  • As a LightCore figure, his bomb head is red indicating his ability to detach his explosive head. However, his fully-lit fuse lights up.
    • Though based on LightCore Countdown's gameplay figure, he doesn't seem to light up in-game, making him the only LightCore character to do so.
      • This might be because it is based on his basic ability, Bomb Head, which makes his head explode.
  • Countdown resembles N.Trance from Crash Bandicoot.
  • Just as Ghost Roaster is capable of dying in the hub level using his attacks, Countdown can die in the hub level using his attacks in the 3DS game.
  • Some of Countdown's abilities are similar to Alisa Bosconovitch from Tekken 6. Both characters use their arms as rockets and can detonate their heads.
  • Countdown, Stump Smash, Prism Break, Drill Sergeant and Eruptor are the only bipedial Skylanders without hands.
  • In the 3DS version, LightCore Countdown's face isn't red, but black.
  • He is similar to Grinnade, who is also a walking bomb.
    • Both can also summon smaller bomb allies.
