Trivia
- Troll Home Security is meant to be kept secret, so the Generator emits an invisible, silent beam that can't be touched, or tasted.[1]
- In The Battlements, Flynn and Cali will not follow the Skylander until the first two big cannons are destroyed. If the player attempts to advance without them, they will remind the player that they must destroy the cannons first.
- Troll Home Security was originally called The Battlements.
- Troll Home Security is the only level in Giant's earliest alpha build to have its own loading screen (complete with a screenshot and themed sky background) and introductory cutscene.[2] As such, it stands to reason that this level was developed earlier than any other chapter in the game.
- The early builds of Troll Home Security contain notable differences from its finalized counterpart:
- The level originally had a longer main theme.[3] The level's indoor and battle themes were originally extended as well, including a dramatic musical climax, which was probably cut for being too intense for regular level music.
- Giants could originally blow up the Lock Puzzles in Failing Fields using artillery shells, which caused the puzzle's Lockmaster Imp to fly out and lowered the corresponding gate.[4]
- In an early version of Giants, the Water Elemental Gate in this level used to have a short pillar that Skylanders could stand on. (This can be seen in footage from Soul Gem cutscenes such as Trigger Happy's and Bash's.) However, in the final game, this pillar was heightened to become too tall for Skylanders to access.
- Similarly, early Soul Gem footage reveals that the tower at the end of the level used to have much larger red flags, which were likely shrunk for the final game in order to obscure less of the screen during the final battle.
- A seadog NPC originally appeared inside the Secret Cave, replacing Gurglefin as a Skystones challenger.[5]
- In the second half of the level, Cali originally challenged Flynn's claim to have activated the artillery dispensers, implying that he claimed credit for a feature that was already active.[6] Her skeptical dialogue, however, was replaced by more straightforward directions to the player in the final game. She also originally declared, "I'm just going to ignore him from now on" after the first cannon section, a comment that was later changed to a more patronizing, "That's amazing, Flynn."
- In the earliest alpha version of the level, the shield generator was entirely absent from the final tower.
- If, during the final battle, the player runs all the way across the bridge to the rightmost tower, the battle music will end as if they had defeated all of the enemies.
- During the Tilting Tower and The Battlements segments, remixes of Arkeyan Armory's theme replace Troll Home Security's normal music. The cannon run sections and later stages of The Battlements remix Kaos's theme, combined with some portions of Troll Factory's music.
- Early versions of Troll Home Security borrowed Sky Schooner Docks's theme for The Battlements. [7]
- Additionally, the level originally included a remix of Crystal Eye Castle's theme during one of its block puzzles.[8]
- The majority of The Battlements section can be skipped by using Bouncer's guided missiles. By aiming missiles at the final breakable wall and destroying it, a cutscene is triggered that places the player there as if they had destroyed it with a Bomb as usual. Flynn and Cali also appear as usual.[9]
- If the player performs this trick while leaving Flynn and Cali behind as stated above, the player can backtrack and destroy the cannons to let Flynn and Cali through. This results in a strange case where two instances of Flynn can be seen at once: Flynn from before the cannons, and Flynn after destroying the final wall.
- According to one of the Wilikin at the end of Wilikin Village, Troll Home Security has been operating for 35 years.
