Vathek is an undead dragon who appears in Dragon's Peak in the console versions of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. He is the evil brother of the Dragon King, Ramses.
Personality
Vathek is known as a horrible, evil dragon who always wanted to be king of Dragon's Peak. As his brother was throned as king instead, Vathek sought out to claim the Dragon's Throne for himself, willing to betray his own brother to achieve his goal.
Story
Vathek is known as an evil and horrible dragon who some fear that he may one day steal the Dragon's Throne to rule as Dragon King. One day, while Flavius was flying with Ramses, Vathek took the chance to sit on the Dragon's Throne, in which he who sits on the throne rules all of Dragon's Peak. With the power of the Dragon's Throne, Vathek became king of Dragon's Peak and betrayed Ramses, turning his brother into stone.
When the Skylander confronts Vathek, the evil dragon sends his minions to destroy them, but the Skylander manages to defeat them all. Vathek then decides to confront the Skylander himself and engage them in battle, and before it seems the battle is about to begin, Flavius appears and takes position in the Dragon's Throne, using the power of the throne to turn Vathek to stone as punishment for betraying Ramses. Afterwards, Ramses sadly ponders on what to do with Vathek, at first suggesting banishment, but dismisses the idea when Flavius mentions that the frozen Vathek makes a ' good statue'.
3DS Version
Although having no story role in the game, Vathek is seen flying through the skies of Dragon's Peak as the Skylander makes their way through the lands. At the Dragon's Throne, Vathek appears and engages the Skylander in battle, with the Skylander emerging victorious.
Boss Fight (3DS Version Only)
As the boss fight between Vathek and the Skylander commences, the Skylander will have to fire at the various items that slide into the arena to send them flying at Vathek to damage him. However, Vathek will occasionally blast fireballs at the Skylanders and will often shield himself with his wings to protect himself from the projectiles, so you have to launch the projectiles at the dragon when his wings are down. Once he is inflicted with enough damage, Vathek will be vanquished in a display of light.
Trivia
- Unlike most dragons throughout the Spyro series, Vathek resembles a wyvern, a winged reptilian creature.
- He also speaks with a snake-like lisp, unlike other dragons in the series.
- Vathek was originally planned to be a Skylander in Spyro's Adventure, but the role of the Undead Dragon Skylander was already taken by Cynder.
- Although the Skylander doesn't battle Vathek in the console versions, they will be able to battle against him in the 3DS version of Spyro's Adventure.
- Vathek and Hektore are the only bosses in the 3DS version of Spyro's Adventure.
